Theory of Personality
An attempt to state a "Grand Theory of Personality" that would unify the apparently opposed approaches to psychology of existential experience and systemic methodology - the "Grand Theory of Empirical Psychology."
By Michael Rosenthal.
Religious Morality and Brain Chemistry
The punishment in Islam for the DSM-4 diagnosis of kleptomania is the removal of a hand. Recent research indicates that medications which suppress endorphins are effective in curbing the compulsions of a kleptomaniac. Bearing in mind the costs to society of each way of addressing this condition, is it time to rethink religious morals and their impact on culture? Come join a discussion of comparative religious morality as it is addressed by a modern psychological understanding of compulsive behavior.

“Social Networking Etiquette”
Is Social Networking Rudeness on the Rise?
By
Mark McLaughlin
Author
Public Relations Director at Results Marketing.
Mark McLaughlin will explore the transgressions of online etiquette in his
presentation. He will provide tips on how to avoid annoying or rude behavior. He
will also provide suggestions on how to nurture positive Internet relationships.
McLaughlin believes that annoying or inconsiderate social networking behavior
is, in part, a product of the fast times in which we live.
“Our culture is passing through a time of brisk technological development,” he
says. “Modern life is changing at a frantic pace – and that’s okay. But as the
world changes, sometimes people concentrate too much on their own objectives and
manners fly out the window – and that’s not okay.”
Because Facebook and other social networks are free, people sometimes feel that
“anything goes” -- but in reality, nothing could be further from the truth.
“Abusing a free service is almost doubly inconsiderate,” he said. “People should
be grateful for the service and treat its other users with respect.
Think about this social networking scenario: Suppose you are an author and some
of your Facebook friends are also authors. But since they write books in the
same genre as your works, they are also competitors. When those authors post ads
for their books on your Facebook page without asking you, are they being rude?
About the presenter :
Throughout his career, Mark McLaughlin has specialized in getting messages out
to business, industry and the general public. Over the years, his writings have
appeared in literally thousands of magazines, trade journals, business
publications, newspapers, anthologies, and websites.
When he is not at his desk at Results Marketing, writing advertising copy and
news releases, he is at home working on his latest book. His 20-plus books
include the supernatural suspense novel MONSTER BEHIND THE WHEEL (co-written
with Michael McCarty), the story collections MOTIVATIONAL SHRIEKER and PICKMAN'S
MOTEL, and the poetry collections THE GOSSAMER EYE (co-written with Rain Graves
and David Niall Wilson), PHANTASMAPEDIA, and PROFESSOR LaGUNGO'S EXOTIC

Presenter:
Kambiz Naficy brings a lightness and joy to everything he touches. He combines
the ancient science of Kriya Yoga, the unveiling of subconscious beliefs, and
the loving support of community to bring balance and harmony to the evolution of
our consciousness. Each of his talks is illuminating in its own way as he offers
guidance into further understanding to our inner world and deeper love of self.
About the presenter:
Kambiz Naficy is a poet, meditation master, and spiritual healer who is
committed to helping individuals reach their full life potential through inner
development and growth.
This commitment evolved into his life-work, as he reached a pivotal moment of
change in his own life. Emerging from his strong belief in the power of an
inner-directed life, and a natural fusing of the Persian and Western cultures in
his background, Kambiz decided to leave a highly successful professional life to
take the leap toward the Soul.
Then, in his own words, he describes the beginnings of a remarkable shift…
“…I began to outgrow my old ways of life – like a shoe that does not fit no
matter how hard you try, my emerging self no longer fit into my old life. One
day, I looked around and found that all the leaders that I admired, were
themselves full of fear and worries. Their marriages were failing, their
children lacking love, and their sense of alienation from their fellow-man was
often anesthetized by drugs. No matter where I looked, I could not find a person
who was truly inner-directed, and creating success from the inside-out—that is
when my faith in the external order of things began to fade. I began to search
within.”
In the corn fields of Iowa at Fairfield University Kambiz began intensive study
of the Indian Vedantas and found striking parallels between the Vedas and
quantum physics. From ten years of that study, emerged The Joy of Life
Organization. Kambiz offers workshops and seminars in Sri Lanka, India, Europe,
and the U.S. His teachings reflect his unique ability to draw parallels between
ancient spiritual teachings and Western holistic sciences focused on
self-transformation and inner healing. His unique approach is the blend of
spirituality and psychology; both of which he feels must be addressed for true
transformation.
Kambiz is in the process of carrying out his vision to bring these workshops
across oceans and cultures where many have already benefited from his teachings
of self-exploration, mental concentration, and inner-directed paths to
creativity and self-knowledge.

He became a naturalized citizen in New York at the age of 16, and went on to earn a Bachelors in the History of Modern philosophy, and a masters of Liberal Studies through Fordham University. Most recently, Farinha spent six years as a big-rig trucker, talking to his fellow Americans as a part of his book writing project, the manuscript of which is entitled The New Walden; and the conclusion of which heralded an economic justice message which flowered into his most recent organizing activities in the Quad Cities in the Occupy Wall Street spirit.
